Generally, cashmere is found only in a few regions of the world with extreme temperatures and altitudes above 4,000m. These include regions such as the former princely state of Kashmir in the Himalayas, Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and the highlands of Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and Iran. The yarn we use comes from Inner Mongolia. In the very cold winters, goats develop the fine undercoat that we value so highly. It has the highest heat retention capacity of all natural noble fibers, is self-cleaning, and breathable. Because it is so rare, it is one of the most sought-after natural fibers in the world.
The Yarn
Once a year, during the natural shedding season in spring, only the fine underhair is hand-combed from the dense wool - our cruelty-free cashmere. The goats are traditionally not shorn, as this harms and stresses the animals.
A goat yields about 200-300 grams of wool, which is just enough for a medium-weight sweater.
